Craniosacral therapy, a system of bodywork that is scientifically based, utilizes very light touch both for treatment and for diagnosis. CST has been shown to alleviate a wide range of conditions, including traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, migraine headaches, chronic fatigue, motor-coordination impairments, chronic neck and back pain, scoliosis, central nervous system disorders, dizziness, tinnitus, sinusitis, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), stress and tension-related problems, and orthopedic problems. . Due to its gentleness and effectiveness, many people include CST in their personal wellness programs. They report having more energy, sleeping better, being sick less often, and having a greater sense of well being.
The craniosacral system plays a crucial role in maintaining the environment in which the central nervous system functions. It consists of the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord as well as the attached bones, (including the skull, face and mouth), which make up the cranium, and the sacrum. Since the brain and spinal cord are contained within the central nervous system, one can see that the craniosacral system has powerful influence over a wide variety of bodily functions.
The Craniosacral rhythm is monitored with light touch, detecting and releasing any adhesions, restrictions or energy cysts that are causing the patients symptoms. Not always is where we feel the pain, the root of our pain. This is important, because by finding and treating the root cause we can sometimes solve problems that have plagued someone for years. The therapists work is not as much “doing” something as just encouraging the body’s natural healing mechanisms to self correct. Corrections may be felt physically or may come in the form of an emotional release. Memories can be stored in the cells of the body and these may be released during the healing process. An emotional release may also see the reduction or disappearance of the physical pain.
